What are Farmacule's key strengths?
Farmacule has identified the following key strengths as central to its competitive advantage:
- Farmacule has worldwide exclusive rights to proven technology for the localised expression of specific proteins and other valuable compounds in plants (both monocots and dicots). The technology also allows the control of valuable plant traits including virus resistance, enhanced yield and male sterility.
- Farmacule has the technical expertise and capabilities to express proteins in transgenic plants and incorporate male sterility traits in those plants to address concerns about environmental release.
- Plant-based protein expression systems offer relatively shorter development and approval timeframes, high scalability and lower costs structures than traditional methods.
- Australia is ideally suited to molecular farming. It has a very well developed agricultural production infrastructure, comprehensive legislation regulating genetically modified organisms (which Farmacule's Managing Director played a significant role in drafting) and importantly a government that strongly supports biotechnology. There are over 200 Genetic Modification field trials this year across Australia. Importantly, in Queensland, Farmacule's home state, targeted crops can be grown year-round.
- Farmacule has the commercialisation skills and resources to use its unique technology to exploit the international market opportunity from its base in Australia.
- Based on its platform technology, Farmacule's business strategies will deliver multiple revenue streams to internally balance commercialisation risks. These strategies include a combination of early sub-licensing revenues from non-core aspects of the technology, with long-term revenues from the production of high value proteins using its proprietary technology.
